Higher turn discs will help get an "S" shaped flight path which provides extra distance. To get this "S" path, you can either use a higher turn rated disc, or a slower speed disc. Overpowering a lower speed disc will generate more turn than a disc rating. A disc that has turned is creating a greater cross section to a side wind force.
